Peek the Parkway is an interactive travel, storytelling experience that I developed for my graduate capstone project. The primary goal of this project is to promote awareness of the Blue Ridge Parkway, and to encourage adult leisure travelers to visit the national scenic byway in 2016 during the 100th anniversary year of the National Park Service. Development included wireframes, web development, content strategy and development, identity design, production and video editing, user experience (UX) design, personas, and production schedule development.
Peek the Parkway focuses on digital storytelling, user experience (UX) design, web development, production and content strategy. Interactive technologies captivate users with engaging and entertaining experiences. Creating fun, vibrant video experiences was a priority for this project.
Through the use of interactive video, photography, audio and text, Peek the Parkway encourages adult leisure travelers to visit the Blue Ridge Parkway, while also educating users about popular attractions along the park’s 469 scenic miles spanning Virginia and North Carolina. The project utilizes Interlude, an interactive video platform with recognizable controls, to build a user experience using an itinerary featuring the Parkway’s Plateau District, which spans southwest Virginia. The video features footage of signature attractions, and the interactivity allows users to determine how they progress through the experience.
The primary audience for this project is adult leisure travelers, ages 34-65, which use the Internet to plan their travel. This audience is full of active, frequent travelers who seek to visit unique destinations that offer a wealth of experiences including outdoor adventure, scenic drives, wineries, restaurants, and more. The secondary audience is composed of group travelers and tour planners as they plan trips for large groups traveling together and following a detailed an itinerary for the duration of the trip.
